Initially written by Chugong and illustrated by the late Dubu (Redice Studio), Solo Leveling began as a humble web novel in 2016 and quickly exploded in popularity. It expanded into a wildly successful webtoon series on KakaoPage, where it became the platform’s No. 1 title, garnering over 14.3 billion views globally. Through its anime adaptation, it made history as the first Korean animation to win nine major awards at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and YES, that included Anime of the Year and Best Action! So, a Solo leveling live action was a long time coming!

Is Solo Leveling Getting a Live Action?

Solo Leveling, the anime global phenomenon, is officially getting a live-action adaptation on Netflix. The anime lovers? They are buzzing with excitement. The K-drama fanatics? They might just go crazy. With the internet’s boyfriend Byeon Woo-seok cast as the lead, this long-awaited Solo Leveling live action is poised to set a new benchmark in fantasy K-dramas.

Netflix has officially announced that it’s taking the franchise to the next level. Starring Byeon Woo-seok as the protagonist Sung Jin-woo, the series is already making waves across fandoms. Known for his mind-blowing performances in 20th Century Girl and Lovely Runner, Woo-seok is widely praised for his “manhwa-like” visuals, making him a natural choice to portray Jin-woo’s gripping evolution.

The story of Solo Leveling centers around Jin-woo, the weakest Hunter in a world plagued by supernatural Gates that unleash terrifying monsters. After a near-death experience in a deadly double dungeon, he gains a mysterious power that allows him to “level up”: a rare ability no other Hunter possesses. As he trains and fights, conquering dungeon after dungeon, Jin-woo transforms into an unstoppable force and humanity’s last hope against growing threats.

This live action Solo Leveling series will be co-directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, the visionary duo behind Korean cinematic gems like Ashfall, Like a Virgin, Castaway on the Moon, and Cold Eyes. Backed by Kakao Entertainment and SANAI PICTURES, and brought to life by a world-class global VFX team, fans can expect jaw-dropping visuals, cinematic action, and a faithful adaptation of the source material.

What’s Next for Solo Leveling?

The Solo Leveling franchise isn’t slowing down. Alongside the much-anticipated Netflix Solo Leveling live action, the anime is continuing its journey with Season 2 titled Arise From the Shadow. In a surprising announcement, global music star J Balvin has been cast as a voice actor, further showing the franchise’s massive international appeal.

Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer ready to dive into the world of Hunters, dungeons, and epic battles, the upcoming Solo Leveling movie live action promises to be a must-watch. With Netflix’s massive global platform and the franchise’s unbeatable momentum, Solo Levelling live action could very well become the next Squid Game-level sensation.

Stay tuned as Jin-woo’s legendary rise unfolds!
