All Larval Tear Locations in Elden Ring (Base Game & Shadow of the Erdtree DLC)

All Larval Tear Locations in Elden Ring
12

Elden Ring’s Larval Tears are the key to rebirth – they let you reset your character’s stats by giving one to Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. These items are extremely rare, with a total of 18 Larval Tears in the base game (scattered across various regions) and 9 more added in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. If you want to try new builds or fix your stat distribution, you’ll need to hunt down the Larval Tear locations. As a veteran Tarnished, I can tell you this journey is worth it – but be prepared, because many Larval Tears are hidden behind shapeshifting enemies or tucked away in dangerous places.

All Larval Tear Locations Elden Ring (Base Game)

In Elden Ring’s base game, Larval Tears are found in specific locations across the Lands Between. Often they drop from enemies disguised as something else (for example, an ordinary enemy that transforms into a powerful monster). Below, we break down all Larval Tear locations by region. Use these as a checklist to ensure you find every Tear for respeccing.

Limgrave Larval Tear Location (Agheel Lake South)

The starting region Limgrave contains 1 Larval Tear. It’s located east of the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace. On a cliff overlooking the road, you’ll see a lone wandering noble (undead soldier). Attack this inconspicuous foe, and it will transform into a Lesser Runebear (surprise!). Defeat the bear, and it will drop a Larval Tear. This is likely the first Larval Tear you can encounter in the game – but it’s easy to miss since the enemy looks ordinary until provoked.

Liurnia of the Lakes Larval Tear Locations

Liurnia holds three Larval Tears in total, found in the following spots:

Rose Church area

Look for a giant lobster southeast of Rose Church. When you kill it, it reveals its true form – a Grafted Scion – which drops a Larval Tear upon defeat. (Yes, even a lobster can be a decoy in Elden Ring!)

Behind Caria Manor

After clearing Caria Manor and defeating Royal Knight Loretta, you gain access to the Three Sisters area. In the southwest of that plateau, in a ghostly graveyard, you’ll find a spirit sitting on a chair. Interact with the ghost, and it will vanish, leaving behind a Larval Tear on the chair.

Pidia, Carian Servant (Merchant)

Also behind Caria Manor, down along the cliffs to the west, lies Pidia the Carian Servant. Pidia will sell you a Larval Tear for 3,000 runes. (If Pidia has died due to quest events, you can retrieve his bell bearing and purchase the Tear from the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold.)

Caelid Larval Tear Location

Caelid has 1 Larval Tear hidden among its horrors. Travel to the area west of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in southwest Caelid – there’s a graveyard with some wandering enemies. One seemingly normal soldier in this graveyard is actually a decoy. When attacked, he shapeshifts into a gigantic Troll. Defeat the Troll, and you’ll be rewarded with a Larval Tear for your trouble.

Altus Plateau & Mt. Gelmir Larval Tear Locations

The Altus Plateau and Mt. Gelmir regions each offer one Larval Tear:

Altus Plateau (Woodfolk Ruins)

In the woods south of the Minor Erdtree (Altus), find the ruined camp just south of the Windmill Village area. A meek-looking noble sits crouched inside the ruins. Attack him, and he’ll transform into a ferocious Lion Guardian. Slay the beast to claim a Larval Tear drop.

Mt. Gelmir (Road of Iniquity)

From the Road of Iniquity Site of Grace on Mt. Gelmir, head east to a burned-out campsite with a single undead corpse lying near a fire. That “corpse” is no corpse at all – it will morph into a Wormface enemy when disturbed. Take down the Wormface, and it will drop a Larval Tear.

Mountaintops of the Giants Larval Tear Location

Even the far north hides a Larval Tear. In the Consecrated Snowfield (secret area beyond the Mountaintops of the Giants), you can find 1 Larval Tear. Starting at the Inner Consecrated Snowfield Site of Grace, go southeast into the snowy field. You’ll come across what appears to be a half-buried corpse of a noble with two other NPCs nearby. Strike the half-buried noble, and it will transform into a Lesser Runebear (much like the Limgrave trick). Once you defeat the bear, you’ll receive the Larval Tear. Be cautious – the snow obscures visibility, and the bear hits hard in these tight quarters.

Nokron, Eternal City Larval Tear Locations (Underground)

Several Larval Tears are found in Nokron, the Eternal City – the underground region unlocked after defeating General Radahn. In fact, Larval Tears are more common in these subterranean lands. Here’s what you can collect in Nokron and its vicinity:

Nokron entry corpse

From the Nokron, Eternal City Site of Grace, head southeast. Inside the first building (a ruined stone structure), you’ll find a corpse with a Larval Tear on it. Grab it, but watch for any Silver Tear enemies lurking nearby.

Slime-surprise Gazebo

Further into Nokron, as you traverse the ruins, you’ll descend a long stairway toward the Mimic Tear boss arena. Before the boss, look for a gazebo on the right side of the path. A corpse in the center of this gazebo holds a Larval Tear – but as you approach, several Silver Slimes will ambush you from above. Dispatch the gooey foes and loot the Tear from the body.

Mimic Tear Boss (two Tears)

Defeat the Mimic Tear boss (which copies your character’s appearance and gear) at the end of Nokron’s first section. Upon vanquishing this boss, you will receive 2 Larval Tears as a reward. This is a generous payout for a single fight, effectively doubling your respec opportunities.

Night’s Sacred Ground (giant Silver Sphere)

In Nokron’s deeper area (Night’s Sacred Ground), you’ll encounter a gigantic rolling Silver Sphere enemy patrolling a hall. This deadly orb can crush you, but if you manage to destroy it, you’ll be rewarded with another Larval Tear.

Tip: Using ranged attacks or luring it off a ledge can make this encounter easier.

Nokstella, Eternal City Larval Tear Locations

In the Nokstella region (underground Ainsel River), you can find three Larval Tears, all dropped by the infamous giant Silver Sphere enemies. As you explore Nokstella’s ghostly streets and waterways, keep an eye out for large silver globes that attack you. There are three such Silver Spheres in Nokstella’s city area, each of which will drop a Larval Tear when destroyed. Their locations include one on a bridge, one inside an upper room (drops from the ceiling), and one guarding a treasure. Take your time and eliminate each sphere to collect all three Tears. With this, you’ll have exhausted all Larval Tears available in the Lands Between’s base game.

Other Larval Tear Sources (Merchants)

Two Larval Tears in the base game aren’t found on corpses or dropped by mimics – instead, they can be purchased from merchants:

Abandoned Merchant – Siofra River

In the Siofra River underground (near the Worshippers’ Woods Site of Grace), a hidden merchant sells a Larval Tear for 3,000 runes. You’ll find this Abandoned Merchant inside a ruin to the west of the grace.

(If you prefer not to spend runes, you could eliminate the merchant to obtain his bell bearing and buy the Tear from Roundtable Hold – but attacking merchants is a risky business and not recommended!)

Pidia, Carian Servant – Liurnia

As mentioned earlier, Pidia in Caria Manor’s secret area will sell you one Larval Tear for 3,000 runes. Ensure you reach him before advancing Ranni’s quest too far; otherwise, Pidia might die and you’d have to buy from his bell bearing later.

With all these collected, you should have every Larval Tear from the base game (check your inventory for a count up to 18). Now let’s cover the new Larval Tear locations introduced in the DLC.

Larval Tear Locations Elden Ring DLC: Shadow of the Erdtree

The shadow of the erdtree larval tear locations expansion brings players to the Realm of Shadow – and thankfully, it also offers new Larval Tears to accommodate all the cool new weapons and builds. The DLC hides nine additional Larval Tears throughout its new areas. Unlike the base game, you won’t get these from trick enemies or boss fights. Instead, DLC Larval Tears only appear at night as glowing purple items in spectral graveyards. (Picture eerie circles of blue gravestones – if you see one shining at night, go check it out!) Below is a list of all Larval Tear locations DLC in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC:

Gravesite Plain

From the starting grace (Gravesite Plain) in the DLC, head directly east toward the cliff’s edge. At night, you’ll notice a ring of faintly glowing tombstones. In the center, a purple item glow marks a Larval Tear on the ground. Pick it up to claim your first DLC Tear.

Greatbridge North

At the Greatbridge North Site of Grace, look just to the east. Another set of spirit gravestones lies near the broken bridge, and a Larval Tear is lying among them.

(If it’s not there, make sure it’s nighttime – rest at the grace until night falls.)

Prospect Town

South of Prospect Town (a new area in the DLC), climb the hill where a hostile Forager Brood enemy patrols. Near the top of that hill, in a small grave site, you’ll find a Larval Tear. Be prepared to fight off the foes in the area before grabbing it.

Pillar Path Waypoint

From the Pillar Path Waypoint grace, travel up the hill to the south. On the eastern side of this hilltop, in another spectral grave circle, you’ll spot a Larval Tear. It’s easy to see at night thanks to the bluish glow of the graves.

Highroad Cross

Starting at the Highroad Cross Site of Grace, go north along the main path. You’ll come across an enemy camp on the road. Just east of this camp, atop a small rise, lies a Larval Tear (among yet more glowing headstones). Clear out any enemies, then grab the Tear.

Church of the Crusade

Northwest of the Highroad Cross grace is the Church of the Crusade. From that church, move just a bit south into the field. Near some rubble and grave markers, you can scoop up another Larval Tear. It’s essentially directly south of the church building.

Cathedral of Manus Metyr

In the northwest part of the DLC map stands the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. The Larval Tear here is found in the open plains to the northwest of the cathedral. Ride out into the field (at night) and look for the telltale glow among the rocks and graves.

Temple Town Ruins / Ancient Ruins Base

There’s a Larval Tear located at the boundary between the Temple Town Ruins and the Ancient Ruins Base Sites of Grace. Essentially, as you move west from Temple Town Ruins grace toward Ancient Ruins Base, check the area where the two regions meet. You’ll find a Larval Tear shining in a wooded spot there.

Ravine North

The final larval tear locations DLC Larval Tear is hidden near the Ravine North Site of Grace. Go west from Ravine North grace down into the forested ravine area below the Rauh Ruins. Amidst the trees and tombstones, you’ll find the last Larval Tear waiting for you. This one can be tricky to spot, so use your lantern and watch for any glimmer in the darkness.

By collecting all of the above, you’ll secure every Larval Tear in Shadow of the Erdtree, giving you nine extra respec opportunities. The DLC tears are admittedly harder to find (they’re in the open world rather than obvious boss rewards), but their bright glow at night makes them easier to notice once you know to look after dark.

Final Thoughts: Ready to Respec and Rebirth

With all Larval Tear locations shadow of the erdtree covered – both in the base game and the DLC – you should now have a hefty supply of these rare rebirth items. Whenever you’re ready to respec, head back to Raya Lucaria’s Grand Library and talk to Rennala to undergo rebirth (respec your attributes).

Remember, Larval Tears are one-time use consumables and cannot be farmed infinitely, so use them with intention. As an experienced Elden Ring player, my advice is to experiment and have fun with different builds, but also plan ahead – you get a limited number of respecs per playthrough (27 total with DLC included). Now that you know every Larval Tear location, you hold the power to reshape your fate in the Lands Between.

Happy hunting, and enjoy your newfound freedom to rebuild your character!
